The Oilers and Flames remain the NHL's biggest rivals, and ahead of a huge season, their prospects will do battle in two massive games next weekend.
The 2025/26 NHL season is almost upon us, with teams set to begin training camp in the coming weeks as the new regular season is less than seven weeks away for most teams around the league.
At this time of year, we usually see some prospect clashes around the National Hockey League, and after playing a four-team round robin tournament in Penticton a year ago, the Jets, Canucks, Oilers and Flames decided to forego that this season.
However, that doesn't mean we won't see prospects doing battle, as it has been made official that next Friday and Sunday, the Oilers and Flames top prospects will clash in two games, one in Edmonton and one in Calgary.
This matchup is likely to feature some of the biggest names in both organizations such as Isaac Howard, Matthew Savoie will represent the Oilers while the Flames will turn to the likes of Matvei Gridin, Andrew Basha and one of hockey's most exciting prospects, Zayne Parekh.
This matchup won't mean much on paper, but for these players, it gives them a chance to matchup with some of the best prospects around the NHL, and given how crucial development currently is for both of these franchise's, it's safe to say that the event should be supported well for what will be a thrilling pair of matchups.
What these pair of games do is signal the return of hockey, and with the future bright for both of these teams, this is one that fans should get out and support, with tickets officially going on sale on Thursday.
