Elias Pettersson had a clear down year in 2024/25, but after some time away from the game, the Canucks star has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the NHL.
The 2024/25 campaign was supposed to be a huge one for the Vancouver Canucks after an impressive Pacific Division crown the year before, but unfortunately, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong a season ago.
One person that struggled more than anyone and was in the spotlight more than anyone was star centre Elias Pettersson, who had a public feud with J.T. Miller and many struggles on the ice, but he's looking for a come back in 2025/26.
In a recent interview with NHL.com, EP40 opened up on the struggles and his motivations ahead of next season, and instead of tip-toeing around his struggles, he was clear and direct with his message.
For myself it's revenge. I'm not happy with last season.
Last season, Pettersson had just 45 points, the lowest number of his career in a season in which he played 60 or more games, coming off of a three season run where he tallied 68, 102 and 89 where he established himself as a true 1C in the National Hockey League.
With some new faces around and some old names locking in for the long haul, the Canucks as a whole have chance for a bounce back season in 2025/26, and if Pettersson can even be 80% of the player we saw between 2022 and 2024, then there's no reason why they can't be incredibly productive as a team and individuals.
