The Boston Bruins, like other teams in the NHL have cap space to spend, and according to Elliotte Friedman, they're targeting some of the leagues top names.
This NHL off-season has been rather slow, and around the league there are teams flush with cash and cap space that are looking to spend, but thus far, we're yet to see the blockbuster type move that would usually define an NHL off-season.
Now, according to Elliotte Friedman, there are teams that are preparing big time moves, with the NHL's top insider name dropping the Boston Bruins as a team to keep a close eye on.
This off-season, the team landed Boston College product James Hagens in the 2025 NHL Draft before landing Tanner Jeannot, Viktor Arvidsson and Henri Jokiharju in surprising moves, and while the team has no doubt improved, it's safe to say that they're not quite where they want to be at this point in time.
Not only does Friedman mention them as players in the trade market, but he also talks about the crop of 2026 free agents, with the Bruins potentially looking to acquire a big name a year in advance to sign whoever they acquire to a long-term extension.
The 2026 free agency group includes Connor McDavid, Cale Makar, Kirill Kaprizov, Artemi Panarin and so many other top line stars, and given how often the Bruins land those stars in free agency or via trade, it's no surprise to hear them in on discussions.
Ultimately, until there is a move, we'll need to continue waiting patiently as we're yet to see many big time deals in the summer, but with the Bruins lurking with plenty of flexibility, don't be surprised to see them in on some intriguing deals.
