Erik Karlsson just sparked fresh Maple Leafs trade rumours

Okay, to label Daniel Alfredsson simply as a "member of the Leafs coaching staff" is a little disingenuous. The legendary figure has a long relationship with fellow Swede Erik Karlsson whether it was in Ottawa or on the international stage. But, maybe this connection now means something and raises the likelihood that Karlsson could end up in Toronto.

The 36-year-old does have a full no-move clause in his contract so he gets complete control for where he goes, or if he is going to be traded at all. And now that the Leafs have some of Karlsson's favourite people in hockey, could we see a return to Ontario, but for the Blue and White instead?

Could Karlsson to the Leafs become a reality?

It would fully depend whether or not the teams are in the right position, of course. If the Penguins are down in the depths of the Eastern Conference and miles away from making the playoffs, while the Maple Leafs are having the bounce-back season that we dream of -- then that sets the groundwork for a potential deal.

But, the Leafs will not be the only team looking to get this legendary player. This is where the advantage that Toronto has can shine through.

While we don't know for sure whether or not Karlsson would want reunions to happen, him coming to the team to re-join Alfredsson (and be coached by him) and then also have Mats Sundin of all people as one of his bosses, is just the ultimate cherry on top. And it might just be enough for Karlsson to green light a trade to the Leafs.
