To #Canucks:
Evander Kane
To #Oilers:
OTT 2025 4th Round Pick
No salary retained, Edmonton clears $5.125 million off the books.
Evander Kane, who is currently 33 years old, would have had his contract expire at the end of the 2025–26 season, making him an Unrestricted Free Agent. The Oilers were looking to free up some cap space and definitely accomplished that by trading Kane over to the Canucks.
The Oilers are only receiving the Ottawa Senators’ 2025 fourth-round pick, but again, are freeing up a lot of cap space without having to retain any of Evander Kane’s salary. This allows Edmonton to fully look at their options available and sign or trade for a player, even if it means spending more money.
Per @PuckPedia, the Oilers have $17,087,500 of cap space after sending Kane to Vancouver.

Interestingly, that fourth-round pick was the one that the Oilers sent to the Canucks last year to acquire Vasily Podkolzin, effectively making the deal Kane for Podkolzin. Given the contract amounts and production of both, this feels like a clear win for the Oilers, not to mention the amount of free cap room the team now has to play with.
With Kane moving on and the Oilers opening up over five million in cap space, what do you think will be next in the offseason trades and additions. Let us know in the comments.
