In humorous fashion, first-overall pick Matthew Schaefer was speaking to NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette when he referenced getting the former enforcer a nose job.
The New York Islanders drafted Matthew Schaefer with the No. 1 selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, and it's not just his on-ice skills that are making headlines.
Matthew Schaefer's personality and character are just as impressive, especially after being featured on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast.
During his sit-down with Paul Bissonnette and the staff, Schaefer did discuss his along-the-way struggles to being drafted first overall.
But the highlight moments came when the 18-year-old did some poking at Bissonnette's expense, showing a welcome sense of humor for a young NHL prospect.
When asked what he would do with his first big paycheck, Schaefer joked half-seriously about giving Biz a nose job, eliciting chuckles and the kind of charm the league has been accused of not having at times.
Later, when asked about his off-season diet, he tossed in another lighthearted jab at the expense of the old enforcer.
'I think they want be on the Biz diet where you just eat whatever.'- Matthew Schaefer
While the trash talk was the talk of the town, Schaefer also publicly expressed his love for being an Islander, calling himself a 'Lifer' and explaining how much he loves the organization and fans.
Whether or not he stays with the franchise long-term remains to be seen, but initial signs point to Schaefer being the next face of the Islanders.
