Calgary Flames goaltender Devin Cooley left Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers and did not return after sustaining a lower-body injury on a collision with Oilers forward Colton Dach.

Cooley, 29, finished the first period after the collision but was replaced by Dustin Wolf in the Calgary crease after the intermission. The Flames confirmed midway through the second period that Cooley would not return to the game.

Dach was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for goaltender interference on the play that ultimately knocked Cooley out of the game. Cooley allowed one goal on nine shots in the first 20 minutes before Wolf took over.

In addition to the Cooley injury, the Flames also confirmed during the second period that forward Brennan Othmann sustained an upper-body injury and would not return. Othmann fought Oilers defenseman Ty Emberson during the opening frame of Wednesday’s game at Rogers Place.

The Flames entered the game on a four-game winning streak driven largely by the stellar play of Cooley, who was named the NHL’s second star of the week ending ending Oct. 25. Through his first six appearances of the season, Cooley posted a 4-2-0 record with a .915 save percentage.

Cooley has drawn considerable attention this season for his entertaining and unpredictable post-game media interviews. The Los Gatos, California product is under contract with the Flames through the end of the 2027-28 season at a $1.35 million cap hit; last season, he posted a 10-10-6 record with a .909 save percentage in 31 games.

Off goals by Mathieu Joseph and Mattias Ekholm, the Oilers led the Flames by a 2-0 score after 40 minutes of play at Rogers Place on Wednesday. The Oilers entered the game in second place in the Pacific Division with an 8-2-2 record, while the streaking Flames sat in sixth place at 5-6-0.
