Flames GM Addresses Growing Speculation About Rasmus Andersson

Speculation around Rasmus Andersson’s future with the Calgary Flames has become one of the most tangled stories of the offseason as the defenseman enters his final season under contract.

Multiple insiders have reported conflicting details regarding Andresson's impending exit from the Flames, but general manager Craig Conroy has remained firm in saying that the defenseman is happy in Calgary.

"Right now, he's totally fine with playing for the Calgary Flames. That was the last conversation. And he's always said that he's a Calgary Flame," Conroy said. "When he comes back in September, he'll say the same thing to you guys, 'I love it here, l'm a Calgary Flame.'"

"It's all the speculation. And hey, everybody has a job, everybody has to do it, but until something is done, nothing is done. You have seen guys that maybe you think weren't going to re-sign with their team, and they did re-sign with their team. It happens."

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported on Thursday that the Flames received a significant offer from the Los Angeles Kings that “would blow your socks off.” Despite the offer, Andersson allegedly declined to waive his no-trade protection.

In a previous report, Dreger had linked Ottawa, Columbus, Vegas, and Dallas to ongoing interest in the 27-year-old. He labeled the situation as a "spicy" one.

Meanwhile, insider Frank Seravalli reported that Dallas, Vegas, and Los Angeles could pursue Andersson if they manage to move salary. He also called Andersson “the best trade chip available right now, or before the trade deadline.”

TSN's Chris Johnston offered a separate scenario involving a potential swap between Calgary and Buffalo, where the Flames would acquire Bowen Byram if they submit an offer sheet for the blueliner.

As of now, no deal has materialized, and Andersson remains under contract for next season, the last of his six-year, $27.3 million deal with Calgary. He played 81 regular-season games last year, scoring 31 points, including 11 goals.
