There has been a shocking development in the Florida Panthers Stanley Cup celebrations today as an unexpected twist took place during the victory parade.
Losing in the Stanley Cup finals is a feeling that most fan bases are familiar with.
Losing in the Stanley Cup final twice in a row is something that not many fan bases can relate to.
That it exactly what Oilers fans are going through right now.
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has already talked about what it feel like from his perspective.
But what must makes this so much worse is the fact that the Oilers were extremely confident that they were going to be able to pull off the win this time.
In fact, the team was so confident that they reportedly booked a sushi Restaurant in Florida before game five, anticipating that they would be celebrating a Stanley Cup victory after game six.
According to Empty Netters podcast host Dan Powers, the Oilers made reservations at a Miami area Sushi restaurant called Takato before game five of the series even began.
Powers claims that he contacted someone within the Panthers organization before the game, telling them about the Oilers plans, which he says helped motivate them to win the series in six games.
'I'm not going to snitch from the account, but what I will do as a rat I hit up a contact on the Florida Panthers, someone on the inside, and I give them that information. That information makes it on the whiteboard pregame Game 5, a little motivation for the boys.'
At this point, this is just speculation, but there is some more evidence to back up this claim as some of the Panthers players were seen with trays of Sushi and bottles of Sake from Takato during their Stanley Cup parade.
Of course, whether or not this story is true won't really matter to Oilers fans, who are lamenting their historic loss.
But for Panthers fans, stories like this make their victory just a little bit sweeter.
