The Philadelphia Flyers’ head coaching search has come to a close. According to Frank Seravalli on X (formerly Twitter), the Flyers are closing in on a deal to make Rick Tocchet as the franchise’s next head coach.

However, the move is not finalized, as he has to go through the steps in the process. Still, this is a major move for Philadelphia, who have been looking for a recognizable and credible name.

Earlier in the season, the Flyers fired John Tortorella as their head coach. His no-nonsense attitude fit Philadelphia well, but the lack of success was a major culprit.

In three seasons, he never made the playoffs.

On the flip side, Tocchet has had some playoff success. Not to mention, he was a major proponent of helping young teams succeed. In stints with formerly Arizona Coyotes and Vancouver Canucks, he led both teams to playoff berths.

He might have the opportunity to do the same with Philadelphia.

We will update this story with more details.
