The Philadelphia Flyers shook up the NHL on Monday by acquiring Trevor Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks.
Shortly after completing the trade, Flyers general manager Danny Briere made clear that the Zegras move will be far from the last completed by Philadelphia this offseason.
The Flyers sent Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-rounder to the Ducks for Zegras. Briere described the trade not as a solution to fix all problems within the team, but rather as a part of the franchise's ongoing retool.
“This is hopefully just one piece of the puzzle,” Briere said on Monday, per Charlie O’Connor of PHLY Sports.

Zegras, who turned 24 in March, gives the Flyers a skilled and versatile offensive player who can play both center and wing.
O'Connor also reported that Briere “did not sound like a GM who is satisfied with their center situation, even after the Zegras trade — nor a GM who is satisfied with merely making this move this offseason."
"Sounds like he wants to do more on both counts," O'Connor wrote.
Whether Zegras fills a top-line role down the middle or plays on the wing will be up to new head coach Rick Tocchet.
“We hope he can help in the center position, because that's obviously an area that we could improve,” Briere said. “But at the same time, if Rick decides that he’s better suited on the and there are other guys who play better in the middle, then he's going to decide."
After the trade, the Flyers still have $15.1 million in salary cap space.
