PHILADELPHIA- The Flyers comeback came close once again, ultimately losing to the Detroit Red Wings 4-2.

It may not have been a playoff game, but it certainly sure felt like one. The physicality was there, the crowd was into, the result just never came for the Flyers.

Tyson Foerster returned after missing the last 49 games with an upper-body injury. He had an immediate impact in his return.

His 11th goal of the season tied the game just 31 seconds into the second period. Owen Tippett and Trevor Zegras picked up the assists on the Flyers first goal.

Travis Konecny scored his team leading 27th goal to make it a 3-2 game in the third period. Porter Martone picked up his first career NHL point on the play.

Like on Tuesday in Washington, the goal was disallowed for goalie interference, to the dismay of the loud Philadelphia crowd.

Rick Tocchet challenged once again and was successful on the challenge.

However, the game quickly faded soon thereafter, just 16 seconds to be act.

Samuel Ersson let in the weak one that he has been doing so well in not doing since the Olympic break. Letting in a squeaker from Alex DeBrincat from below the goal line.

It was Ersson’s first loss since the break, finishing with just 15 saves.

The referee’s had a very direct involvement in the game. Especially referee Cody Beach who had it out for Porter Martone.

It all started in the first period where Martone came to the aide of Travis Konecny.

After a scrum was broke up, a Red Wing skated directly to Konecny to continue the after whistle gathering. Martone followed him in and immediately got him off of Konecny. Beach gave the only penalty to Martone.

Later on in the second period, Beach again let his emotions get the best of him. Skating directly up to a very angry Martone after being taken down for the second time.

Beach grabbed Martone by the name plate and yelled “shut the f*ck up” directly into his face. Something no referee should do ever, no matter what the situation is.

It sure was an emotional game in Philadelphia, one the Flyers will learn a valuable lesson from.

The Flyers return to action tomorrow night when they travel to New York to face the Islanders at 7:00pm.
