Patrick Thoresen briefly played in the NHL in the late 2000's, and now at 41-years of age, the former Edmonton Oiler has officially announced his retirement.

There were many players during the 2000's that came from Europe with plenty of hype, and while some not only survived, but thrived in the NHL, others simply couldn't find their footing at the top level.

The perfect example of that is Norwegian forward Patrick Thoresen, who signed with the Edmonton Oilers in the late 2000's, with the un-drafted winger coming to the NHL in 2006/07 to plenty of excitement.

Unfortunately, Thoresen just wasn't cut out for the NHL, playing in just 106 games between 2006 and 2008 with the Oilers and the Flyers before heading back to Europe to continue his career.

Patrick Thoresen Ends His Career as a Top-10 Norwegian Player of All Time

There, Thoresen found his home, playing at a high level in both the top league in Sweden and the KHL, winning two Championships in the KHL while also winning one in Sweden this past season after he came out of retirement following a seven-year absence from the professional game.

Now, the 41-year old has once again made his retirement official, this coming after his decision to play one more season in Sweden with Djurgardens IF, a year in which he tallied 14 goals and 41 points in 48 games played.

While Thoresen never made it big in the NHL, he had a fantastic career away from the worlds top league, and now, he'll look to find his footing beyond retirement after a fantastic final season in Sweden, retiring as a top Norwegian player of all time.
