A former Calgary Flame is heading north up Highway 2.
Late on Tuesday evening, it was reported by numerous sources that the Edmonton Oilers have signed former Flame, Andrew Mangiapane.

It’s a two-year deal with an annual cap hit of $3.6 million. While it’s a good deal on paper for the Oilers, they have a lot to do if they wish to contend for the Stanley Cup again, as John Klingberg, Corey Perry, and Connor Brown all signed elsewhere, while they traded Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins.
Mangiapane, 29, has spent eight seasons in the National Hockey League, seven with the Flames and one with the Washington Capitals. Last season with the Capitals, the Toronto, Ontario native scored 14 goals and 28 points in 81 games as the Capitals went on to shockingly finish first in the NHL after barely squeaking into the post-season in 2023-24.
The Flames selected Mangiapane in the sixth round of the 2015 draft from the Ontario Hockey League’s Barrie Colts. After another season in the OHL where he scored 51 goals and 106 points in 59 games, Mangiapane turned professional for the 2016-17 season.
With the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat in 2016-17, Mangiapan scored 20 goals and 41 points in 66 games, along with a goal and three points in five post-season games. He spent most of the 2017-18 season with the Heat, scoring 21 goals and 46 points in 39 games, but appeared in 10 NHL games that season.
He played an additional 15 AHL games in 2018-19, but became somewhat of a regular with the Flames the same season, scoring eight goals and 13 points in 44 games, along with a goal in five post-season games. The 2019-20 season was his breakout year, scoring 17 goals and 32 points in 68 games.
That’s what Mangiapane has averaged throughout his career, scoring 18 goals and 32 points in 56 games during the 2020-21 season. The one outlier came in 2021-22, as he potted an incredible 35 goals and 55 points in 82 games as the Flames went on to finish first in the Pacific Division.
In his final two seasons, Mangiapane scored 31 goals and 83 points in 157 games. Before the 2024 NHL draft, Mangiapane was traded to the Capitals in exchange for the Colorado Avalanche’s second-round pick in 2025. That was then used to select Theo Stockselius over the weekend.
