Forward Aidan Thompson Signs Entry-Level Contract With The Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks will be signing forward Aidan Thompson as reported by Scott Powers of The Athletic. The Blackhawks have three games remaining in the regular season as Thompson becomes pro.

Aidan Thompson was drafted in the third round in 2022 and has spent the last three years with the University of Denver. Denver, coached by hot commodity David Carle, was eliminated from the Frozen Four tournament on April 10 after falling to Western Michigan 3-2 in double overtime.

Thompson played his best NCAA season with 55 points in 44 games. He posted 30 points in 44 games last season and 32 in 32 games in his freshman year. His impressive season comes with the asterisk that he is on the older side in the NCAA.

Aidan Thompson did sign an amateur tryout contract with the Rockford IceHogs and will join them in the remainder of their regular season as they make their playoff push. Thompson will provide much-needed skill in Rockford as their best players are with the Blackhawks.

If Thompson has a spot on the Blackhawks roster, we won't know until next year. He could be on the third line at best but don't get your hopes up. I would expect Thompson to make his NHL debut towards the end of next season unless he really impresses. Thompson played mostly center but he can play on the left wing as well.
