On Tuesday, the New York Islanders agreed to terms with forward Liam Foudy on a one-year, two-way contract. The 26-year-old native of Scarborough, Ontario, was rewarded with an extension after posting a career-best pro season with 26 goals and 47 points in 60 games with the team’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Bridgeport Islanders.
Foudy is a winger known for his elite speed and defensive skills, making him reliable on the penalty kill. He has built a commendable professional career with over 300 games played in more than five years.
Foudy was drafted 18th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2018. He had a very productive four-year career with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights, where he scored 191 points in 230 career games. He made his pro debut in April 2019 with the Blue Jackets’ AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters.
Foudy, whose father was a former Canadian Football League player and whose mother was a silver medalist sprinter at the 1984 Summer Olympics for France, won the Gold Medal with Canada at the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championships.
During that season, he also made his NHL debut on an emergency basis on Feb. 10, against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he was included in the Blue Jackets’ postseason roster, scoring his first NHL goal in the series-deciding Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs Qualifying Round against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Foudy became a full-time pro within the Blue Jackets’ organization in the 2020-21 season, appearing in 24 NHL games. He again represented Canada, this time at the World Championships, where he secured a Gold Medal, appearing in ten games for the red and white.
After two seasons of back-and-forth within the organization, Foudy became a regular with the Blue Jackets in 2022-23, appearing in 62 games and scoring seven goals and 14 points.
Foudy started the 2023-24 season with Columbus but was placed on waivers a few weeks later. On Oct. 21, the Nashville Predators claimed him off waivers and assigned him to the Milwaukee Admirals, where he spent most of the season. His contract was not renewed, making him a free agent during the offseason.
On July 10, 2024, the Islanders signed him to a one-year, two-way contract. During his first season with the team, he was assigned to Bridgeport, where he set career highs across the board, playing 70 games and scoring 45 points (20 goals and 25 assists). He ranked third on the team in points, despite finishing last.
Foudy was re-signed for the 2025-26 season and set new career highs. He played a crucial role in Bridgeport’s pursuit of the Calder Cup Playoffs. This season, he played 60 games, scoring 26 goals and 47 points, ranking second on the team.
Foudy is ready to build on his two successful seasons with Bridgeport to become an integral part of the new team identity as the Hamilton Hammers as they adjust to their new home in Steel City. His presence provides the Islanders organization with a valuable asset—someone who can be called up to the main roster when needed and play a significant role in the farm team’s potential success.
