The New York Rangers earned a 5-3 road win over the rival New Jersey Devils to open the preseason in their first game under new head coach Mike Sullivan.

Right wing Gabe Perreault stood out throughout the exhibition contest, scoring the game’s opening goal. He skated on a line with veteran wing Conor Sheary and 24-year-old center Juuso Parssinen.

Perreault made an impact all over the ice throughout the preseason opener. He consistently got to the net-front. His goal at 3:12 was scored on a snap shot received from defenseman Casey Fitzgerald. He skated without resistance to the low slot and beat veteran goaltender Jake Allen.

The 20-year-old wing is looking to make the Blueshirts’ 2025-26 opening night roster after skating in five regular season NHL games last season.

Places are up for grabs under Sullivan and he will need to impress the two-time Stanley Cup-winning head coach.

Perreault logged 15:38 time on ice, a plus-two rating and two shots in Sunday’s game at Prudential Center. He demonstrated confidence while in possession and through his positioning.

The Hinsdale, Illinois native was the 23rd overall selection in the 2023 NHL Entry draft. He registered 48 points (16 goals, 32 assists) in 37 games for the Boston College Eagles last season before signing an entry-level contract with the Rangers.

Dylan Roobroeck, Conor Sheary, Scott Morrow and Jonny Brodzinski all scored for the Rangers on Sunday.

The Rangers will play their preseason home opener against the Boston Bruins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
