Game Highlights 35.0: Edmonton Oilers beat Philadelphia Flyers 5-2

Connor McDavid opened the scoring for the Oilers late in the first period with a nice individual effort that saw him spin a Flyers defender onto the ice before firing a shot five-hole on Carter Hart.

The Oilers added to their lead in the second period when Zach Hyman buried his 22nd goal of the season. McDavid fed Hyman with a nice pass and picked up the primary assist, which was the 900th point of his NHL career in just his 602nd game.

The Flyers got on the board a few minutes after Hyman’s goal to bring the score to 2-1. The play started on a failed drop-pass in Philadelphia’s zone and Travis Konecny was able to slip through Edmonton’s blueline and roof a shot on Stuart Skinner.

The Flyers tied the game at 2-2 later in the second period after another quick defensive lapse from the Oilers. Defenceman Marc Staal jumped in and joined the play in Edmonton’s zone and had plenty of time and space to snipe his first of the year.

The Oilers were able to regain their lead before the end of the second period thanks to a tripping penalty called on Cam Atkinson. Evan Bouchard threw the puck behind the net from the point and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play to make the score 3-2.

The Flyers were called for another penalty early in the third period, but the Oilers scored before the refs were able to blow the whistle and give them a power play. Connor McDavid wheeled around the zone and fed Draisaitl at the point for a one-timer that he bombed through Carter Hart.

Nugent-Hopkins added another goal later in the third period to give the Oilers a 5-2 lead. McDavid picked up an assist on this goal as well, leaving him with five points on the night. He’s now at 903 points for his career, 97 shy of the 1,000 mark.
