Georges Laraque started a shock rumour on Friday around Sidney Crosby, and now he's being ridiculed as a result of the report being emphatically shut down.
While all eyes were on the NHL Draft on Friday, former NHLer Georges Laraque decided to steal some attention for himself, as he began spreading a crazy rumour on social media, stating that a trade involving Sidney Crosby could soon be happening.
This post from Laraque had the NHL world talking, for a little bit, as agent Pat Brisson quickly came out to call these 'baseless rumours', signalling that Laraque was way off with this one.
Unsurprisingly, this has led to many, many fans taking to social media and calling him out, as this certainly wasn't the first time he's spread false rumours, with the former NHLer potentially just looking to steal the thunder of the NHL Draft.
There were many more comments like these from fans roasting Laraque, who has very little credibility as an 'insider' around the NHL, and to come out and spread a rumour like this on such a big night was simply the wrong play here.
While there's a chance that things change down the line, Kyle Dubas has reaffirmed that he's committed to making this Penguins team a contender, but with three solid picks in the first round, they're setting themselves up well for the future as well.
Ultimately though, this was a nothing report that had the entire NHL world talking, but after it was revealed to be a baseless rumour, Laraque got the backlash he deserved on social media, and hopefully this is the last time we'll deal with Crosby rumours this off-season.
