Adin Hill will be patrolling the net for the Vegas Golden Knights for a lot longer.

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Golden Knights have officially agreed to sign Hill to a six-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $6.25 million.

What does this extension mean for the Knights?

Since arriving in a trade with the San Jose Sharks in 2023, Hill has gone from journeyman backup to the answer the Golden Knights needed in goal after the departure of Marc-Andre Fleury.

Hill has appeared in a career-high 39 games so far this season, putting up a 24-11-4 record, 2.53 goals against average and .906 save percentage. He also has a career-high four shutouts so far, including Thursday’s 4-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 101 games (99 starts) now with the Golden Knights, Hill has recorded a 99-59-30 record with a 2.57 GAA and .910 save percentage.

While those numbers are certainly impressive, where Hill has made the most difference for the Golden Knights is in the playoffs.

Hill has played in 19 postseason games (17 starts) with the Golden Knights, posting a 12-6 record with a 2.09 GAA and .932 save percentage. This includes Vegas’s run to the Stanley Cup in 2023, where Hill played in the team’s final 16 games and lead all goaltenders that year with a .932 save percentage. With Hill still the undisputed starter, the Golden Knights will trust him to remain in that role for the foreseeable future.

With his extension, Hill becomes the fifth Golden Knight to earn one during this season.

In October, general manager Kelly McCrimmon officially took defenseman Shea Theodore off the market by signing him to a seven-year extension. November and December brought similar news to the Golden Knights, signing defenseman Brayden McNabb (three years) and forwards Brett Howden (five years) and Keegan Kolesar (three years) to extensions. It has been an excellent job this season by McCrimmon to secure his core players at reasonable rates, especially with extensions due for forwards Jack Eichel and Pavel Dorofeyev in the near future.

Hill has earned his role as starting goaltender for the Golden Knights, and his new long-term contract proves that.
