The Vegas Golden Knights stuck it to their Pacific Division rival LA Kings Thursday morning by claiming defenseman Tobias Bjornfot off waivers.
The first-round draft pick from 2019 had only appeared in one game this season for LA and a total of 117 games with the Kings registering 15 points. With minimal playing time and the coaching staff favoring Jacob Moverare as an option on the left side, Bjornfot had difficulty climbing the organization’s depth chart.
“We got our fingers crossed we don’t lose him to another organization, but he needs to play,” head coach Todd McLellan stated after yesterday’s practice. “He’s still a young player and having him practice and not get the reward of being in the competition is not good for him at that young age.”
Bjornfot joins a list of former LA Kings defenders on the Golden Knights roster including Alec Martinez, Brayden McNabb, and Ben Hutton. He’ll have to stay on Vegas’ NHL roster for at least 30 days.
