The Chicago Blackhawks turned the page on a challenging stretch with a hard-fought 2-1 win against the New York Rangers on Monday night. Under the new guidance of head coach Anders Sorensen, the team displayed a newfound vigor while snapping a five-game skid.
Both Tyler Bertuzzi and Taylor Hall emerged pivotal on offense, while Arvid Soderblom's exceptional goaltending, stopping 29 shots, proved instrumental in the Blackhawks' triumph.
In a strategic overhaul initiated by Sorensen, the Blackhawks adjusted their approach from a 1-2-2 to a more aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck. This adjustment paid dividends, particularly in the first period when Hall's forecheck facilitated a turnover leading to Tyler Bertuzzi's goal, putting the Blackhawks ahead.

Despite giving up the lead late in the first period, Taylor Hall put the Hawks back in front in the second period with what would eventually be the game-winning goal.

As noted, Soderblom's performance was particularly incredible on the night. While it was just his second victory of the season despite what has been a turnaround year for the now-veteran goaltender, he reveled in the chance to play at Madison Square Garden, telling reporters after the game, "That was the most fun I've had in a while."

“It was a childhood dream to play here, watching Lundqvist growing up. It was a cool feeling to step on that ice and play as good as we did.”
The Blackhawks continue their East Coast road trip Thursday night against the New York Islanders. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
