‘He was so nice’: Oilers’ Jake Walman buys Edmonton kids hockey cards

When fans online noticed this story surfaced, they shared their appreciation for the Oilers’ defenceman and how he has been a great addition on and off the ice.

One thing that stands out in this photo is that Walman has a pack of Pokémon cards in his hand as well. A little fun fact about him is that he’s been a fan of trading cards himself.

Back in November 2024, the San Jose Sharks posted a video on X of Walman holding a few boxes of Pokémon cards. In the video, he mentions.

“If you guys want stuff signed, just bring a Pokémon pack and sign whatever you want.”

On X, user Alyssalerae also added:

“Wally is a big hockey card guy.He frequents one of the TikTok lives of a breaker I watch. Such a wonderful human.” 

Not only is he a big card guy, but he hasn’t shied away from showcasing his passion for video games as well. In 2021, on TikTok, he created a skit about the popular video game Fortnite. And his famous ‘Gritty’ celebration comes from the game as well.

The more we learn about Jake Walman, the stronger his popularity amongst Oilers fans grows. It’s the day after he and the team advance to the Stanley Cup Final, and he’s spotted purchasing hockey cards for children, giving them a memory they’ll never forget.

When he’s not blocking shots, he’s opening up Pokémon card packs and earning himself some rest before the Oilers take on the Florida Panthers in a re-match for the Stanley Cup, which begins Wednesday, June 4th in Edmonton.
