The Canadiens were playing their second game of a three-game road trip. After a stop in Buffalo, it was now the Wild’s turn to face Martin St-Louis’s team.

The Habs played this game without changing their lineup.

Here is the Habs’ lineup with Jakub Dobes in goal:

Here is the Wild’s lineup:

The Wild wasted no time breaking the ice in this game.

Joel Eriksson Ek beat Jakub Dobes on the first shot of the game.

A shot that Dobes should have stopped.

Later in the period, the habs defense was mesmerized by Quinn Hughes.

Hughes spotted Kirill Kaprizov in the slot, who put the puck in the net.

Just before the end of the period, Brendan Gallagher beat a Wild defenseman before doing the same to the goalie.

Yes, you read that right. Gally!

Midway through the second period, the Wild thought they had scored, but Dobes stopped the puck and it landed on his net.

Once again, the habs scored at the end of the period.

Lane Hutson did all the work and spotted Ivan Demidov on the other side of the offensive zone.

Hutson made a clever pass and Demidov fired off a great shot.

The Canadiens started the third period strong.

Kirby Dach redirected Nick Suzuki’s pass behind the Wild goalie just 12 seconds into the game.

But the Wild weren’t done yet.

Young defenseman Brock Faber surprised the habs’ defense and beat Dobes with a precise wrist shot.

Back to square one for both teams.

The game went into overtime.

Phillip Danault was penalized in overtime, and Kirill Kaprizov didn’t miss his chance.

Final score: 4-3 in favor of the Wild.

The Canadiens will face the Jets on Wednesday in Winnipeg. It will be the Habs’ last game before the Olympic break.

Overtime

– The habs’ last win in Minnesota dates back to March 20, 2011. Nearly 15 years ago. For the record, a certain P.K. Subban was in the lineup and scored a hat trick.

– Once again.

– Kirby Dach had another great game. He used his size well to get in front of the net and win battles along the boards. His goal was a reward for his hard work. When Alexandre Texier returns, Dach could keep his spot on the first line.

– It was a tough night for Arber Xhekaj, who was limited to just 5:51 of ice time.

– Jakub Dobes had a good game, even if the statistics may suggest otherwise. The goaltender made several key saves in the second period to keep the Canadiens in the game. He allowed 4 goals on 24 shots.
