The Edmonton Oilers picked up forward Trent Frederic in trade today from the Boston Bruins, and a video has resurfaced that perfectly shows the pest attitude he'll bring to the team.
Frederic was linked to the Oilers all season as a player who could bring some toughness and versatility to their lineup. Playing at center or wing, he can be a thorn in the side of the opposition.
With news of the Frederic trade today, an older clip of him has surfaced playing against PK Subban, and absolutely laying into him with the chirps. Frederic's pest attitude is awesome, and his voice is hilarious.
Post another workout video! Post another f****** workout video, you loser.I'm in your f****** kitchen, 76! Woo! That's a slewfoot, buddy.
Frederic was clearly trying to get under Subban's skin by constantly chasing him down with chirps, and it proved to work in the clip. Frederic drew a penalty, and with the Oilers dominant powerplay, that pest ability can have a meaningful effect.
The new Oilers forward doesn't shy away from going after some big names with his pest play. Frederic also has a bit of a rivalry with Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin, going back to two hilarious incidents.
His style of play will bring an angle that the Oilers don't really have outside of Corey Perry. At 27 years old though, Frederic is faster and can get in more on the forecheck, as well as chip in some secondary scoring.
Potentially paired alongside Corey Perry, the Oilers could have a bottom six group that drives their opposition crazy. Frederic is currently injured, but is expected to play for the Oilers within the next 3 weeks.
The Oilers have picked up a quality player and personality with today's trade for Trent Frederic. Hopefully he can be part of the solution to bring the Stanley Cup to Edmonton after just missing out last year.
