How concerned should the Sabres be right now?

The Buffalo Sabres are already in hot water, and we’re just three games into the 2025-26 regular season.

The Sabres lost 3-1 in the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, leaving them with an 0-3-0 record and having been outscored 10-2 in losses to the Avalanche, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. Buffalo, who have not qualified for the playoffs for an NHL-record 14 straight seasons, now find themselves on the outside looking in just one week into the year, with fans calling for GM Kevyn Adams to be fired.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed the Sabres’ difficult start and what could come next if they’re not able to find their game.

Carter Hutton: This is a loaded Atlantic Division, probably the hardest in the Eastern Conference. For Buffalo, the leash is so short here. You look at Lindy Ruff, you look at Kevyn Adams, what they’ve done, where this team is and just the debacle that they’ve gone through.

They’re not able to find the back of the net. The Carousel of goaltending with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen out and Alex Lyon in, and they haven’t really been able to answer the bell. I thought getting that game against Boston would have lit a fire underneath them after losing to the Rangers on home ice, but I just didn’t feel that energy.

I know we have some different pieces with this Sabres team, but I don’t know how long owner Terry Pagoula is going to sit on his hands with this team. I don’t know if it’s a total rebuild and gutting, because we’ve been through this so many times, but as a fanbase, these poor suckers have been through so much.
