Miller has star potential and is a former first-round draft pick of the Rangers. New York has been looking to make some big moves this offseason following a season of not making the playoffs.
Moving on from Miller had been rumored for a long time, and the Hurricanes now will greatly benefit from this. Adding Miller to the team should help bolster the Carolina defense, while also giving them a nice, young star in the process.
Miller scored seven goals and 20 assists for the Rangers last season over 74 games. Putting him on a loaded Carolina team should help his numbers improve, and the Hurricanes seem to be going for things again next season.
Carolina made the Eastern Conference Final this year, but fell short of the ultimate goal again. The Hurricanes fell to the Florida Panthers in a five-game series, and the team has felt like they may need a few pieces to get over the hump.
The front office has been active, and this move for Miller could help them be much more competitive. Miller has all the skills to transform this defense into something special, and this is a great move for the Hurricanes early in the offseason.
