Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman acknowledges the tough time he had in the 1st season of his new contract as Boston missed the playoffs, but he is promising to be better in 2025-26.
It was a season from hell for the most part for the Boston Bruins last year, as they missed the playoffs for the 1st time in a decade and sold off multiple players at the Trade Deadline, including captain Brad Marchand, who was sent to the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
Goalie Jeremy Swayman also didn't come close to living up to the expectations of his new major contract that he held out for, missing all of training camp and the exhibition schedule before finally signing.
Most of the starting duties belonged to the newly acquired Joonas Korpisalo thanks to Swayman's contract holdout in training camp and the exhibition schedule. Korpisalo was acquired from the divisional foe Ottawa Senators in the major trade that sent Linus Ullmark the other way.
Korpisalo, who was traded away from Ottawa only a year into a 5 year contract, didn't have much better luck in his 1st year with Boston.
Swayman's newfound confidence should help the Bruins' tandem bounce back from what was a mostly miserable year in 2024-25.
Swayman recently said that he feels like a completely different person compared to this point last year during his contract holdout.
I'm a completely different human being. And that's a testament to the experience that I gained throughout my career to this point. And I'm so grateful for that - the ups and downs of it all. And standing here, Jeremy Swayman is in a great spot, and I'm really excited about that.
Swayman, who was included on the American roster for the 4 Nations Faceoff in February, badly needs to show improvement to justify his massive contract.
