Injury Update as Chris Tanev Leaves Game for Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev left Tuesday night’s game after a scary-looking collision early in the second period. The team later announced that Tanev would not return due to an upper-body injury.

The play occurred when Tanev drove toward the net in traffic and appeared to take an inadvertent hit to the head from an opposing player’s helmet. He immediately went down and slowly made his way off the ice before heading straight to the locker room.

It was a tough moment in an already rough stretch for the Maple Leafs, who surrendered three goals within the first five minutes of the second period — including one on a 4-on-1 rush. Toronto struggled to regain its footing after the chaotic sequence, as fans and teammates alike kept an anxious eye on Tanev’s status.
