The Edmonton Oilers will have an extremely important salary cap decision with Evander Kane's return from injury, and new reports from an NHL Insider suggest Kane will return after the regular season.
NHL insider Frank Seravalli has earlier reported that Kane will miss the entire season with this injury, and is now updating his reports.
According to a new update from Frank Seravalli, the Oilers will be operating under the assumption that Kane will not return until the playoffs.
This means that the team will be able to spend his salary cap hit at the trade deadline, and the Oilers will be able to add his $5.125M salary on the blue line instead.
"The Oilers have all the supporting documentation they need to keep Evander Kane out till the Playoffs. The Oilers are still accruing cap space. The question is what are they going to do with their flexibility?'
The Edmonton Oilers surely miss Kane's 24 goals and team leading hits from last season, but the team has been able to survive without him and may be even better once they add a player with his salary.
