At 17-years of age, Matthew Schaefer has been thrust into the spotlight, and now he's won over fans after blasting Paul Bissonnette in his Spittin' Chiclets debut.

The New York Islanders used the No. 1 overall pick on Matthew Schaefer in the 2025 NHL Draft, and while his talent won many people over, his personality and his character have done exactly the same.

That has only improved since his interview with Paul Bissonnette and the cast of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, as he opened up on his journey to being the No. 1 pick and the hardships he's gone through to get to this point.

However, the moments that stole the show were when he called out Paul Bissonnette, who has famously become one of the biggest analysts and personalities in the game, famous for his banter with the players, especially Brad Marchand.

Schaefer's first callout was when he was asked what he'd do with his first big bonus, to which he replied he'd get Biz a nose job, which shows some of the great personality that's been lacking in the NHL.

It doesn't stop there however, as he was asked what type of diet the team would have him on in the summer, to which he replied with yet another shot at the former NHLer.

'I think they want be on the Biz diet where you just eat whatever.'

All of this was in jest however, but it wasn't all jokes, as Schaefer expressed the immense love he already has for Long Island, the organization and the fans, declaring himself an Islander for life.

'I'm an Islander now. Islander for life. The fans are awesome. In the scrimmage I got hit and the fans started booing the guy who hit me, so it's sweet. The fans are awesome. Long Island is sweet.'

We will see if that holds throughout his career, as the NHL is a business after all, but for now, Schaefer is saying all the right things, and with great chemistry thus far with the media, he's showing that he can be the face of this franchise for a long time to come.
