Jack Hughes and the New Jersey Devils were taking on the Detroit Red Wings last night, although they ended up losing the game.

It was a tight match for much of the evening. At one point, the Red Wings were winning with just a few seconds left in the game. Unsurprisingly, the Devils pulled their goaltender to put out an extra attacker and press for the tying goal. However, it didn't work as Michael Rasmussen was able to score an empty-netter.

It is a truly impressive goal as Rasmussen scored despite a huge effort from Hughes. However, Rasmussen ended up pulverizing Hughes as he scored. He then stood over Hughes and stared him down.

The Devils did not appreciate this, and there was a scrum after all of this. While some may find this embarrassing for Hughes, others find it pretty endearing. At the end of the day, he put in an amazing effort which is great to see.

'Good for Hughes not giving up on the play, he was never going to win that battle but I like that fire from him. He hates losing.'

'Both teams gotta love what their guys did. Great effort from Hughes and great physicality from Ras.'

The Devils are now 5-4-1 on the season while the Red Wings are now at 4-3. Both of these teams are fighting hard for a playoff spot and it will be interesting to see if they are both able to make it happen. The Devils, however, are one of those teams expected to make a leap as potential Stanley Cup contenders.
