The Canadiens faced off against the Las Vegas Golden Knights at the Bell Centre.
For the Montreal club, there were no changes to the lineup from the last game, other than the starting goalie. Patrik Laine was on the bridge, having been practicing in a regular jersey for some time.

The visiting team dominated the first half of the first period.
A mistake by Alexandre Carrier gave the Golden Knights a two-on-one opportunity. Pavel Dorofeyev took advantage of Lane Hutson’s hesitation to fire a shot that beat Dobes on the glove side.
Dorofeyev scored his 23rd goal of the season.

The Habs had several chances to score after that, but were unable to capitalize on them.
1-0 Golden Knights after the first period.
Early in the second period, Cole Caufield thought he had scored his 30th goal of the season, but the Golden Knights challenged the goal for a potential offside and… they were right.
The goal was disallowed.
Moments later, Zachary Bolduc sent a puck to the net and veteran Phillip Danault redirected the shot. The Golden Knights’ goalie didn’t have time to react and the puck was behind him.

Cole Caufield really wanted to score his 30th goal, and he did!
He picked up a loose puck near the net and put it past Akira Schmid.
That one was a good one.

Despite two penalties late in the period, the Canadiens led 2-1 after forty minutes of play.
In the third period, the Golden Knights dominated the Habs.
And by playing with fire, the Canadiens ended up getting burned.
Dorofeyev deflected a shot on goal, and that was enough to beat Jakub Dobes.
The two teams were back to square one.

With a few seconds left in the third period, Alexandre Texier was tripped and the habs found themselves on the powerplay.
The game would be decided in overtime.
The Canadiens were unable to capitalize on their power play.
However, Jake Evans gave the Canadiens the win by beating the Golden Knights’ goalie in overtime. Yes, you read that right, Jake Evans!

Final score: 3-2 in favor of the Canadiens
The Canadiens will face the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday at the Bell Centre before heading to Buffalo.
– Lane Hutson is in a bad streak in terms of discipline. The American defenseman has been assessed his fifth minor penalty in six games.
– For Cole Caufield, this is the second consecutive season in which he has surpassed the 30-goal mark. He may even have the opportunity to surpass the famous 40-goal mark this season.
– Jakub Dobes played a solid game. He looked more confident in front of the net and his lateral movement was less erratic. He made several key saves and stopped 32 shots.

– Once again, the referees did not have their best game. Two penalties called against the Habs were highly questionable. Caufield was penalized for hooking, but the video replay showed that the forward did not touch the opposing player.
Absolute phantom call. Caufield misses his stick lift and he’s called for hooking. pic.twitter.com/3ZxEtnHxid

– The same goes for Oliver Kapanen, who was only trying to avoid being offside but was called for interference.
