The Dallas Stars have been at the center of trade chatter all summer, but one top insider just made it clear that Jason Robertson isn't leaving Big D anytime soon.
The Dallas Stars have been surrounded by speculation all summer, but one of the loudest trade rumors may finally have been put to rest. Despite chatter linking leading scorer Jason Robertson to blockbuster deals with teams like the Calgary Flames or Montreal Canadiens, one insider insists Dallas has no plans to move its star forward before the 2025-26 season begins.
According to Daily Faceoff's Jeff Marek, Robertson is not only staying put, but the Stars see him as central to their long-term plans. On the DLLS Stars Podcast, Marek said:
"I'm firmly of the belief that it is Dallas' first choice to keep Jason Robertson."
That statement, combined with the team's recent moves, has eased concerns that Robertson could be dangled as part of a last-minute cap shuffle.
Robertson, 26, is entering the final year of his $7.75 million deal and will become a restricted free agent next summer.
The Stars complicated their cap picture by signing Mikko Rantanen to a long-term contract, but the expectation is there's still room for Robertson to get extended. He finished last season with 35 goals and 80 points across all 82 games, the type of production Dallas simply can't replace.
Still, the situation isn't without pressure. The Stars must also prepare for a new contract for Thomas Harley, and with limited cap space, every big extension tightens the squeeze.
As Marek noted, there are potential trade candidates elsewhere on the roster, but
"we shouldn't expect to see any type of trade involving Robertson coming this season."
Personally, I think this is the right call. Robertson may not have matched his career-high totals from 2023, but he's still the engine of the offense. Moving him would make no sense for a team that believes its Stanley Cup window is wide open.
