Jets Acquire Brandon Tanev From the Kraken for 2027 2nd-Round Pick

On the season, Tanev has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points, along with 91 blocks and 122 hits, while playing just under 14 minutes per game. He is a viable addition to the roster, as he can play multiple roles for the team. Being able to play on both sides of the wing while being a prolific penalty-killer, he might not bring the level of production he once showed earlier in his career, but you know what you’re getting when you acquire him: a hard-working and physical bottom-six player who gets down and dirty to win the game.

This trade will see Tanev rejoin the Jets with whom he first played from 2015-16 to 2018-19, where he played 195 games, scoring 24 goals and 27 assists for 51 points. The Jets are absorbing his entire cap hit of $3.5 million. The 33-year-old is considered one of the best examples of an undrafted player carving out a solid NHL career.

Seattle continues to sell this trade deadline as they reevaluate their future and manage their pending free agents. They already did a bang-on job trading Yanni Gourde and Oliver Bjorkstrand to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a massive haul, and now they get a great return on another pending unrestricted free agent.
