Jets Recall Elias Salomonsson

As expected, the Winnipeg Jets have added a defenseman after Jack St. Ivany was claimed off waivers earlier today. According to a team announcement, the Jets recalled Elias Salomonsson from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Salomonsson, 22, has been ramping up in the AHL over the past week. He underwent the knife in April for shoulder surgery, and missed Winnipeg’s training camp and preseason while in recovery. Salomonsson has missed the Jets’ first ten games of the 2026-27 season, and it remains uncertain whether he will be in the lineup for the Heritage Classic tomorrow.

Last season, the former second-round pick debuted for Winnipeg. He finished the 2025-26 season with one goal and five points in 32 games with a -6 rating, averaging 17:58 of ice time per game. Although his scoring output left something to be desired, his 51.8% CorsiFor and 91.2% on-ice SV% at even strength show uncommon maturity for a younger defenseman.

Fortunately, Salomonsson should have another level to get to offensively. He’s shown it before in the AHL, scoring five goals and 27 points in 53 games throughout the 2024-25 campaign. During his pseudo-preseason over the past week, Salomonsson registered an assist in two games with a -1 rating.

While Salomonsson replaced St. Ivany, the Jets will face a similar situation when Josh Morrissey returns from injured reserve due to an upper-body injury. Once Morrissey returns, Salomonsson will likely return to AHL Manitoba since he’s the only defenseman on the roster exempt from waivers.
