JJ Peterka OT goal lifts Bruins past Jets

JJ Peterka scored with 1:39 left in overtime to propel the visiting Boston Bruins to a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night.

David Pastrnak laid a pass ahead to Peterka as the duo surged in transition, and the Boston newcomer finished the deciding tally five-hole on Winnipeg's Stuart Skinner, who made 11 of his 26 stops in the third period and overtime.

It was Peterka's second goal in as many games with Boston.

Pastrnak assisted on Boston's final two goals. Elias Lindholm scored an extra-attacker goal with 1:38 left in regulation to force the game to the extra frame.

Hampus Lindholm and James Hagens (first NHL goal) also scored, and Jeremy Swayman made 30 saves for Boston, which has started the season with back-to-back wins.

Kyle Connor had a power-play goal and added an assist, Mario Ferraro and Dylan DeMelo also lit the lamp, and Adam Lowry dished out a pair of helpers for the Jets in their season opener.

After Skinner made several saves and got help from his right post on a Marat Khusnutdinov tip with 7:31 left in the third, the visitors' pressure paid off in a tying goal when Lindholm was perfectly stationed between the circles to redirect a Pastrnak shot from above the right circle.

Connor nearly ended the game in Winnipeg's favor 1:12 into the extra session, but hit the left post after sliding through two defenders to attack the net.

An opening goal at 4:52 highlighted Winnipeg's dominant start to the first. After Morgan Barron circled the zone and banked a pass off the boards, DeMelo blasted a point shot that changed direction and beat Swayman over his shoulder for the 1-0 lead.

At the other end, Hampus Lindholm knotted the score with a point shot of his own at 9:23. Morgan Geekie picked up a puck along the wall and spun a feed to his defenseman for a blast that slipped past Skinner's glove.

Hagens gave Boston its first lead with his milestone goal with 4:40 left before first intermission, cleaning up a loose puck in the crease after Mark Kastelic made a tough net drive.

The Jets needed only 16 seconds of power-play time to make it 2-2 at 1:50 of the second. Cole Perfetti's turnaround shot led to a net-mouth scramble, with Connor corralling a loose puck at the right crease and sneaking it through traffic.

Ferraro put Winnipeg back ahead in the middle frame with only eight seconds remaining, lasering a shot from the top of the left circle that appeared to clip Pastrnak on its way into the top corner.
