The Detroit Red Wings entered the third period against the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 lead. The game is now 5-3 Red Wings. As the period began, the Red Wings kept John Gibson out of the net and put Cam Talbot in instead. Gibson had collided with another player late in the previous period and then took multiple shots to the head, but the team has not disclosed the nature of his injury. The Red Wings will have to snap their three-game losing streak with Talbot in net.

Gibson had stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced against his former team tonight. Gibson this season entering tonight in nine games is 4-5-0 with a 3.15 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage. The Red Wings may face a tough decision ahead of their next game if Gibson is to miss any time with Sebastian Cossa and Michal Postava both injured in the AHL. Their AHL affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins did sign NHL vet Dustin Tokarski to a PTO today.
