Following the Leafs' win over the Utah Hockey Club on Monday, goaltender Joseph Woll may have sent fans in Toronto a subliminal message ahead of upcoming homestand.
The Maple Leafs narrowly avoided extending their winless streak last night, largely thanks to Joseph Woll standing tall late in the game and throughout the 3-on-3 overtime. Woll was also superb in the shootout, allowing Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner to secure the victory in a raucous Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Following the win, Woll was asked what he thought of his first visit to Utah. The 26-year-old netminder was impressed with the atmosphere, and gave the crowd some love for how loud they were.
'Really loud. Like, surprisingly loud for a first-year organization. It was awesome. It was one of the cooler environments I've played in. So, props to Utah.'
This could certainly be construed as a bit of a subliminal message for Leafs fans back in Toronto, who often refrain from letting loose and getting loud at Scotiabank Arena.
Earlier this season, a number of Leafs, including captain Auston Matthews, had made remarks about their desire to see the crowd get a little more lively for home games. Perhaps this was Joseph Woll's way of hinting at the same thing.
The Leafs are set to begin a 4-game homestand, which kicks off with a visit from the Florida Panthers on Thursday evening. With a win against the Panthers, the Leafs would move back into a tie for first in the Atlantic Division with a game in hand on the Cats.
