Josh Anderson Named Assistant Captain

The Canadiens had been looking for another alternate captain since Brendan Gallagher was traded to the Vancouver Canucks during the offseason.

Phillip Danault, Lane Hutson, and others might have been good choices, but Anderson is a veteran who’s been with the team for a long time and is well-liked in the city.

The Habs have no intention of “ever letting him go” in the future. Giving him an “A” therefore makes sense.

Above all, we saw Anderson wear a letter on his jersey when Gallagher was benched. Officially offering him the title was therefore just a formality.

Anderson is in the final year of his contract. He could return next year, but there’s also a possibility that this is his last season with the Habs.

We might see the same routine play out again next year.

We imagine that the Canadiens’ #17 will be asked to comment on the news in front of the media in the next few minutes. Around 8:15 a.m., the Canadiens’ press conferences will begin at the golf tournament.

We’ll see what he has to say. But I expect him to say that it’s an honor and that he doesn’t want to change because he was named for a reason.
