The LA Kings have signed the seventh-round pick from 2022, Kaleb Lawrence, to a three-year ELC (Entry-Level Contract). It’s worth $852,000 per season, with a signing bonus of $77,500 and a base salary of $775,000, and if he is in the AHL his salary is $82,500.

His style of play is a physical bottom-six player. He throws hits and is always engaged in each game. He does have an underrated offensive side to his game. In two out of his four seasons in the OHL, he put up at least ten goals. So, while he’s primarily used to being a physical presence at 6’7 and a good penalty killer. That offensive contribution is solid production from someone on the fourth line. His only drawback is he takes a ton of penalties with 89 penalty minutes this season and 75 last season. He needs to limit the penalties in Ontario so he can be on the ice and avoid suspensions as he got suspended twice in this year’s OHL playoffs.

His outlook and potential is a fourth-line center or winger.  He can be a fixture with Ontario next season with him being a physical presence and a good penalty killer. He may be asked to step in early, especially with the Kings excited about the development of Samuel Helenius as the 4C with the Kings. I see him playing primarily on the fourth line and one of the top two penalty-kill units. With his size don’t be surprised if they use him to screen the goalie on the second power-play unit.
