Looking at the Canadiens’ current forward line-up, there aren’t too many major holes in the lineup.
Admittedly, adding a quality center could help… but hey.
On paper, the Habs aren’t an atrocious club. And right now, it’s working because the guys understand their roles and because they’re all working in the right way.
But I tend to think that the Canadiens could still improve. Again, that could be done by adding a center who can play on the top-6… but it could also be done by adding an excellent depth player who can contribute on the bottom-6.
And on that front, Kiefer Sherwood’s name has been gaining popularity lately in Montreal. The player has been linked to the Habs in recent weeks, and according to David Pagnotta(The Fourth Period), the Canadiens are still in the running for his services:
The Fourth Period: Several teams remain interested in Kiefer Sherwood, including the Canadiens, Stars, Wild, Bruins, and Red Wings. The Lightning were considered a team with interest, but David Pagnotta reported they are not currently in the mix (1/4)
– NHL Rumor Report (@NHLRumorReport) January 6, 2026
In his comments, Pagnotta also names the Stars, Wild, Bruins, and Red Wings among the clubs currently interested in Sherwood.
The Lightning was on that list… but the informant maintains that the Floridian club is no longer in the mix of teams interested in acquiring the main prospect.
That said, I like to see the Canadiens in the running for Sherwood, and I’ll explain why:
1. We’re talking about a guy who can be used for any purpose on the ice…
2. We’re talking about a guy who can fill in on the top-6 if needed…
3. We’re talking about a guy with good skating skills, who hits and likes to get his nose in traffic to create things on the ice…
4. Sherwood finished last season with 19 goals and 40 points in 78 games. He’s on track for 34 this season if he can keep up the pace…
I like the idea. But it depends on the price, too, because Kent Hughes won’t be willing to shell out what he’s got to get his hands on a third-line player.
And right now, the price seems to be high in Vancouver. Which makes sense, in a way, if several teams are interested in the 6’0″, 194-pound winger who shoots from the right…
– Connor Bedard is not angry.
Connor Bedard is disappointed, but not mad at Team Canada for not picking him to play in the Olympics. But looking for a silver lining, he feels the decision will drive him to be even better in the future.

The #NYR are sending Igor Shesterkin to IR while his lower-body injury continues to be evaluated. Adam Fox is headed to LTIR with his own lower-body injury, which requires him to miss at least 10 games and 24 days.
