A key veteran is going to be on the shelf for a few more days, at least.

On Monday, the Los Angeles Kings placed forward Joel Armia on injured reserve. The move comes four days after he suffered an upper-body injury in a game against the Edmonton Oilers.

It hasn’t been released how Armia was hurt during last Thursday’s disappointing 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Kings’ Pacific Division rival. He registered 4:46 of ice time across seven shifts before exiting the game.

Per the league’s IR rules, Armia is ineligible to return to action until Friday, when Los Angeles hosts the New York Islanders, at the earliest.

Armia already missed an extended period of time due to injury. In January, another upper-body injury led to the 32-year-old missing two weeks of action. In the 53 games Armia has appeared in, he has scored 10 goals and recorded 10 assists for 20 points, ranking ninth on the team in scoring. The two-way center has a plus/minus of +2 while averaging 14:20 of ice time.

The Pori, Finland native had recently represented his country on the world stage, playing for Suomi at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He scored three goals and five assists for eight points, leading the team in scoring while finishing tied for fourth among all skaters in points. His efforts helped the Finns win the bronze medal.

The Kings made a couple of other roster moves on Monday. Forward Jared Wright and defenseman Angus Booth were called up from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Ontario Reign, while L.A. defender Jacob Moverare was designated to non-roster playing status.

The Kings (24-21-14) are hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. Los Angeles is sixth in the Pacific, three points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
