Brown will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.
The Raleigh, North Carolina native has spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization. He originally signed a one-year contract with the team prior to the 2023-24 season. However, an injury kept him out of action for the entire season.
Brown managed to return to action this past season, spending all of it with the Lightning’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. Despite appearing in just 33 games, he was a significant contributor, scoring 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points. He also registered an assist in three games during the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Brown was initially taken by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 11th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft. Even though he was a highly-touted prospect after his time with the Windsor Spitfires and Kitchener Rangers, he was never able to turn it into a star role in the NHL. He spent considerable time with the Senators and St. Louis Blues, but has been more productive in the AHL.
In 99 NHL appearances, the 27-year-old has scored seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points. In 148 AHL contests, he’s scored 40 goals and 87 assists for 127 points.
Brown is one of many signings the Kings have made since free agency opened that’ll translate to talent being added to their primary affiliate, the Ontario Reign. The team also signed forwards Taylor Ward and Cole Guttman, as well as defenseman Samuel Bolduc, on Tuesday.
