Kraken Make NHL History With Stunning Finish vs. Canadiens

Wednesday night's game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, needed extra time to get settled -- just four more seconds, to be exact.

That was all it took for Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour to find the back of the net in overtime to give the Kraken a 5-4 victory over the Habs.

Seattle center Chandler Stephenson was credited with an assist on that goal after he directed the puck instantly to Montour following the face-off to start the overtime. Without anyone between him and Montreal goalie Jakub Dobes, the 30-year-old Montour took full advantage of the setup, firing a powerful shot that Dobes simply failed to stop.

Montour's game-winner also earned a spot in history.

"This was the fastest goal from the start of overtime and tied for the fastest from the start of ANY period in NHL HISTORY ," the NHL shared in a post on X following the game.

Montour's overtime goal capped his big individual night, as he finished the contest with two goals and two assists. He now has five goals and three assists through six games in March.

With the win over the Canadiens, Seattle successfully swept Montreal in this regular-season series, 2-0.

The Kraken defeated the Habs in the first meeting in October at Bell Centrea in Montrea via a score of 8-2.

Interestingly enough, Montour pulled off a hat trick in that contest. That means a third of his total goals this season have come at the expense of the Canadiens. He has 15 goals and 21 assists through 65 games, so far in the 2024-25 NHL campaign.
