Kraken Recall Jagger Firkus; Place Curtis Douglas On IR

According to a team announcement, the Seattle Kraken recalled forward Jagger Firkus from the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds. In a corresponding roster move, the Kraken placed forward Curtis Douglas on the injured reserve with an upper-body ailment.

Although he may not enter the lineup, it’s the first call-up of Firkus’ professional career. Seattle selected the Irma, AB, native with the 35th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. During his draft season, Firkus registered 36 goals and 80 points in 66 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL. He spent two more seasons with the Warriors, collecting 101 goals and 214 points in 129 games with a +22 rating. He also dominated the 2024 WHL Playoffs, scoring 14 goals and 32 points in 20 games en route to a championship.

Firkus has progressively improved since debuting with the Firebirds in the 2024-25 campaign. He was immediately a reliable tertiary scorer, tallying 15 goals and 36 points in 69 games with a +8 rating. However, since then, he has become one of the team’s best scorers, adding 25 goals and 68 points in his last 75 contests.

Despite his offensive prowess, the Kraken may not necessarily need him. Seattle already had another forward on the roster, Jani Nyman, who replaced the injured Jared McCann in late October. Nyman played on the fourth line in the Kraken’s recent contest against the Calgary Flames, filling in for Douglas.

Firkus’s time on the roster should be temporary, at least. Despite landing on the injured reserve this afternoon, Douglas is considered day-to-day with his upper-body ailment. The bottom-six forward went scoreless in four games before the injury, while also blocking five shots and delivering 10 hits.
