The Kraken already announced Catton would not be playing in three games leading up to the Olympic break on Saturday. He was injured against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 29, when Oliver Ekman-Larsson laid a heavy hit on him, and he was slow to get up. By placing Catton on IR, the Kraken opened up a roster spot to call up Molgaard.
This is Molgaard’s second call-up this season. He played in two games in November (Nov. 20 and Nov. 22) and recorded his first NHL assist in his first game. In 36 games with the Firebirds this season, he has seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points.
The timing is right for Molgaard to see some NHL action. He will also represent his home country of Denmark in his first Winter Olympics beginning next week. If he dresses for tonight’s game, it should help him prepare for NHL competition at the 2026 Winter Games in Milan and also for the rest of the season, if he stays with the Kraken.
The Kraken play their last game before the Olympic break later today when they take on the Los Angeles Kings at 7 PM PT. The men’s Olympic tournament runs from Feb. 11 to 22, before NHL action resumes on Feb. 25.
