Kraken sign Meyers, Winterton to two-year contract extensions

Meyers, 27, has five goals and six assists for 11 points in 31 games played for Seattle this season. He’s also played 11 games for the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds, where he’s put up nine goals and four assists for 13 points. Following a three-year collegiate career with the University of Minnesota, the Delano, Minnesota native began his professional career when he signed with the Colorado Avalanche in April of 2022 as an undrafted free agent. During the 2023-24 season, Colorado traded Meyers to the Anaheim Ducks for a fifth-round pick. He then signed with Seattle as an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2024-25 season. Over 106 career NHL games, Meyers has 11 goals and eight assists for 19 total points.

Winterton, 22, was Seattle’s third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. In 54 games with the Kraken this season, he’s notched three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. Last year, he had just an assist in 12 games for Seattle. The Markham, Ontario native spent the majority of last season with the Firebirds, where he registered 18 goals and 19 assists for 37 points in 56 games.

Seattle is currently holding onto a playoff spot in the Western Conference, as they sit tied for third in the Pacific Division with 63 points in 56 games.

The Kraken will begin their post-Olympic break portion of their schedule with a miniature two-game road trip, in which they’ll visit the Dallas Stars on Wednesday followed by the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
