Many expected changes in net for the Oilers, and while those are yet to come, Kris Knoblauch has opened up on the hiring of a brand new goaltending coach.

The Edmonton Oilers fell short of their ultimate goal in 2025 with a Game 6 loss in the Stanley Cup Finals, and after two straight seasons of sub-par goaltending in the biggest moments, many fans and analysts believed that the team would look to make big changes this off-season.

However, with very few obvious upgrades out there, that may not be the case after all, but the team have made on big change in net, announcing on Monday that they have hired Peter Aubry as their brand new goaltending coach.

This came just days after parting ways with their long-time goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz, with Head Coach Kris Knoblauch commenting on the tough call to make a change behind the bench.

'It was a difficult decision to make, but we are looking to make our goaltenders better. There were times they were exceptional, but other times not as much. I think Peter is ready for this opportunity to help our goalies.'

Some fans have questioned just how much a change in net could really change things for the Oilers, but sometimes, a new voice on the coaching staff can make a huge difference, and with Stuart Skinner needing just a bit of improvement, this could be the change necessary.

Ultimately, the Oilers had to do something, and while some fans weren't happy with the idea of keeping Skinner, the team have made a significant change, and with the team slated to go deep in the post-season again, this could be the thing that helps them take the final step.
