Kyle Connor's Future With Winnipeg Jets Now in Question: Frank Seravalli's Comments Spark Alarm

NHL insider Frank Seravalli's latest comments revealed the Jets star forward is in no hurry to sign with Winnipeg and could be exploring all avenues for his future.

Kyle Connor's future with the Jets is beginning to generate some noise, specifically as training camp looms, and no extension negotiation whispers have been heard.

Not Connor McDavid-levels by any means, but Kyle Connor remains one of the NHL's most consistent snipers and one of Winnipeg's pillars.

Consistency in his goal-scoring has been the Jets' key, so trying to guess what the future holds for him is much of the news.

There are indications that Connor's camp is not so much willing to commit to signing just yet as they are in no rush, and may want to test the waters instead, per NHL insider Frank Seravalli.

'My understanding is that the Connor camp is not in very much of a rush to get something done and that they want to evaluate their options. I'm sure Jets fans don't necessarily love the sound of that, particularly after watching Nikolai Ehlers walk out the door as a free agent. And that's certainly something always at the top of Winnipeg Jets fans minds.'

That uncertainty is unsettling to Jets' supporters, particularly after losing Nikolaj Ehlers to free agency.

With Connor standing at a crossroads in his career, there is increasing speculation about where he would commit to signing if he becomes a free agent next summer.

Connor is from Michigan, and Detroit Leads the Charge as Possible Frontrunners

The Detroit Red Wings are the predictable answer. From Michigan, Connor would provide elite-level talent to a roster that needs a scorer otherwise. It could be a solid move to put Detroit back into contender status in short order.

The r est of the rosters around the NHL could turn his way if their own plans for large-scale additions elsewhere don't come to fruition.

All's not lost, though, in Winnipeg. While last season did come to an end with a disappointing playoff defeat, the Jets are in striking distance, and their identity is that of Connor.

Losing a player of this stature would be a huge blow, and for sure, he does need to be retained for what they're aiming to accomplish in the future.

To this point, Connor's situation is one worth following. Whether he winds up staying in Winnipeg or searching out a situation elsewhere, his decision will weigh heavily with the Jets as well as with the NHL at large.
